Rolling Shutter Readout Speed in Hybrid Cameras

Rolling shutter is the artifact that appears when a camera reads its sensor line by line instead of all at once, and in hybrid cameras it shapes both stills and video in ways that a spec sheet rarely makes clear. A fast readout minimizes the skew that bends fast-moving subjects, while a slow readout turns every quick pan or golf swing into a diagonal smear.The electronic shutter is where rolling shutter lives in stills. Fast sports shot with a slow-reading sensor produce leaning goalposts and distorted limbs, while a stacked sensor with a quick readout renders the same scene cleanly enough that the electronic shutter becomes usable for action. This is why flagship sports bodies invest so heavily in readout speed, and why budget bodies push users toward the mechanical shutter for anything that moves.Video inherits the same constraint, and it is measured differently. A sensor that reads out in under ten milliseconds produces video with almost no skew, while a sensor that takes thirty milliseconds shows visible wobble on pans and handheld motion.
